Position summary
The Scientist, Biology (Sci) is a dynamic and hands-on member of the proteomic team efforts that support the target identification and validation for the development of radiopharmaceuticals for solid tumors. The Sci is a technical expert in proteomic target identification using mass spectrometry including sample preparation, data collection and data analysis. The Sci is well versed in mass spectrometry instrumentation and is responsible for required maintenance of mass spectrometer and related lab instrumentation. The Sci is an integral member of a team of highly skilled scientists with diverse skill sets. The Sci is a key member of the proteomics team by presenting results and participating in cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that drive forward multiple discovery programs in parallel.

Pay Range: $124,800 - $147,200
Radionetics evaluates a variety of factors in determining individual pay decisions, which may include relevant education, experience, and skills; internal equity; complexity and responsibility of the role; and market demand relative to the position. Geographic location may also be a consideration in evaluating salary when candidates work in states outside of California.

Essential job functions and duties
- Design and perform proteomics experiments to analyze protein expression, modification, and interactions using techniques such as liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), DDA, DIA, and targeted proteomics.
- Develop and optimize experimental protocols for membrane protein extraction, purification, and quantification from a variety of biological samples (e.g., fresh frozen and FFPE tissues, cells, serum).
- Analyze complex proteomics data, including protein identification, quantification, and post-translational modifications, using bioinformatics tools and software (e.g., Spectronaut, MS Fragger, DIA-NN, Skyline, etc).
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of LC-MS system (Evosep-TimsTOF Ultra) and other proteomics-related equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Diagnose and resolve technical issues with instruments, including hardware, software, and method-related problems.
- Conduct routine QC checks to ensure instrument performance meets established standards. Analyze QC data and implement corrective actions as needed. Maintain detailed records of instrument maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and QC activities. Prepare reports and documentation as required.
- Perform other responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Ph.D. in Proteomics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, or a Master’s degree with relevant experience.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating mass spectrometry-based proteomics instrumentation (LC-MS/MS), preferably the Bruker timsTOF and timsTOF Ultra systems.
- Experience with laboratory techniques such as membrane protein purification, immunoprecipitation, and Western blotting.
- Experience in proteomics and molecular biology approaches to study membrane proteins by mass spectrometry.
- A proven track record optimizing sample preparation and mass spectrometry methods for functional proteomic studies.
- Strong knowledge of protein biology, including protein modifications (e.g. glycosylation, phosphorylation, ubiquitination), protein-protein interactions, and protein structure-function relationships.
- Experience operating HPLC separation (standalone HPLC) is a plus.
- Familiarity with common software for data analysis (e.g. DIA_NN, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, MSFragger, Skyline, R, Python).
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage projects simultaneously.
